The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends an annual dilated examination for patients that have diabetes. Patients with macular degeneration should be evaluated twice yearly. Patients with a family history of macular degeneration may also consider a baseline ophthalmic evaluation. In addition, patients experiencing flashes and floaters should receive a thorough ophthalmic evaluation to exclude a retinal tear or retinal detachment.

Dr. Patel lives locally in Frederick, Maryland with his wife, who is also a Maryland native; and with their three children. In his spare time, Dr. Patel enjoys exercising, hiking at the regional state parks, and spending time with family and friends.
